FRANKIE IN HEAVEN, Her Story . Oil on Canvas . 15 x 30 . $750
We adopted Frankie and Oscar at the same time from the local roads near our 2nd home in Chitwan, Nepal. Frankie, a female grew up to be gentle and shy, not strong. Oscar, a male became large, sprightly and thriving. They were two of our pack of six dogs, all adopted. Because of Frankie’s relative weakness, some of the others growled and dominated, and Frankie became increasingly withdrawn and outcast, often staying alone.
One day when we returned from buying food, we found Frankie dead, evidently killed by the other dogs who had ganged up and attacked. It was a tragic day indeed, years ago now. We never discovered what had caused this sudden attack. She was so beautiful and loving, so quiet and harmless, I wanted to remember her forever. So in my memorial painting, I laid Frankie gently on fluffy clouds of earth, amidst the tropical greenery of her beloved Nepal homeland.
